something i love abt natsume yuujinchou:

how it deals with natsume's trauma.

it doesn't brush it aside and ignore it, but it also doesn't throw it in your face and repeat the exact same scene every time (cough atsushi bsd there are ways to show trauma and it works ig but it's so. in your face. we don't need the exact same thing every time).

which is part of where natsume shines, i think. it shows natsume's journey, from a shy, closed off boy who trusts no one, not even himself, to someone who lets people in, despite the hardships and fear it brings him. now bear in mind i've not finished with the anime, nor have i read the manga, though i have it loaded and ready to read.

i'm smack in the middle of his healing process, and seeing how tanuma and taki refuse to let him be - how kitamoto and nishimura continue to seek him out - how natori so clearly latched onto him and wishes to keep him safe - it's just... heartwarming. natsume is finally in a place where he can heal and learn to live as a person, not as a ghost, with people who choose him and who he chooses back. and he recognizes that, and he makes an effort to shed his mask, even though it takes time and there are setbacks.

it's a show about healing, and trust, and people, and how though you may not realize it, no matter the oddities you may have, you will eventually find the people that love you despite - or because - of those unique quirks.

...and comparing natsume's flashbacks to atsushi's, while both are to show how beaten down they've been in the past and supposed to help with the story, showing how they overcome their troubles - atsushi always has the one flashback of the headmaster, and it gets tiring, while natsume is shown at multiple points in time with different people. the manga definitely does atsushi better, or so i've heard, but there are plenty of anime only fans that tire of it. don't get me wrong, i love them both, but there's just something natsume does better about it.

🖤He knows that it’s very much wrong to feel this way but Urie can’t stop himself from enjoying your social anxiety at times. He’s someone who wants to be useful to you, mainly by protecting you and making you feel safe and that is what ends up happening due to your fear of interacting with others. You tend to stick close to his side since he’s your boyfriend, let him do most of the talking when someone approaches you two and are very skittish when you’re left alone, terrified that someone might try to talk to you since your nervousness shows. This gives him a lot of control and power in the relationship, something that isn’t healthy, yet even if Urie knows that, at times it just gets to his head. The problem is that even if he tries to encourage you to be socially active, you often just run back to him when you’re too scared.

🖤The way you clutch his hand in your own sweaty palm and hide behind him always shatters his rational side telling him to have you adapt a bit better. How couldn’t he when he sees you shaken to your core? Slowly he starts resigning himself to the new role he has to take as your boyfriend and soon he starts liking it. Sure, it’s unhealthy and your borderline co-dependence on him is toxic but you seem so much happier and at ease with the way things are right now. You’re feeling good and protected when he’s with you and that’s all Urie really wants. He reacts slightly aggressive when his own Squad points out that your relationship isn’t really healthy even if a part of him silently agrees with them.

Tobio Kageyama

🌧️Poor boy is a bit overwhelmed with his darling but he really only wants the best for them. Unfortunately his good intentions can come across as very overbearing most of the time. He’s just very protective of you due to your fear to speak with other people and the fact that you come running to him so often since you’re more comfortable around him, Kageyama also ends up getting the wrong idea. He’s not really letting you leave that much without him because what would happen if you’d end up needing his help with something? Worst is that you would rather prefer being with him.

🌧️You feel so much more comfortable when he’s with you since he can just take over the socializing part for you. It becomes such a routine for him that at one point he low-key normalizes it without fully acknowledging that you should require some help. Even if his friends tell him that he should help you with your problem instead of coddling you by doing what you want to avoid, he just can’t deny you the moment you become anxious in public. He’s too protective to see you struggling like this. No, instead he starts turning angry when someone starts making you uncomfortable, even if they had no bad intentions at all.

Satori Tendou

❤️Tendou finds himself stuck in a bit of a moral dilemma when it comes to his darling. On the one hand he also feels a very sick enjoyment by having you rely on him so much but he also understands that your social anxiety is a hindrance since social interaction is unavoidable, no matter how hard you may try. It isn’t really healthy. Obviously he helps you when you struggle which oftentimes just ends with him doing everything in the end as you end up feeling too embarrassed and nervous, hiding behind his tall form. It’s very hard forcing you into something when you’re shaking, have clammy hands and keep on looking at him for reassurance. Honestly, at times he just scares some people away with his creepy looks when they make you very visibly anxious and don’t seem to have plans to leave anytime soon.

❤️Satori is still doing what he can to help somehow since he knows that you yourself are sometimes frustrated because you just can’t hold a normal conversation and ask for help. To not push you into cold water right away though, he starts by having you around Ushijima and the other volleyball players in his team. They’re quite a chaotic bunch so he deems that if you’ve gotten used to them, being around others should be easier. He’s also trying to take you out more, although he never leaves your side once. All his good intentions aside though, sometimes Tendou feels insecure about himself too. When that happens, your clingy behavior and reliance on him is reassuring and he’ll even encourage it to feel better about himself.

Dazai Osamu

🤎I don’t think that you’d be much surprised to find out that Dazai would love this a little bit too much. You’ve just given him the golden ticket to enable him to do what he wants. It isn’t hard to notice that you struggle enormously with social interactions and this gives the man a great idea on how to manipulate you and make you dependent on him. All he has to do is get close to you and then worsen your already anxious condition to have you fully rely on him. As soon as you have opened your heart for him, he starts spreading his poison. Always taking over in public, something you tend to let him do very gladly. After all it spares you all the potential embarrassment and struggles to speak up.

🤎Just like that he coaxes you into letting him handle everything which worsens your social skills and makes you all the more bashful and nervous when he isn’t with you. You find yourself unwilling to leave the house much if Dazai can’t be with you since you’ve grown too accustomed with him being the one in charge. Your avoidance of social events leads you to spend a lot of time with Dazai at home and he mostly doesn’t mind. Sometimes though he craves to see you all anxious and nervous, struggling to speak to strangers and ultimately hiding behind him. It’s adorable~

Nakahara Chuuya

🟠Little, aggressive man here only grows easier irritable with someone like his s/o. Chuuya is a very protective man so he can not bear to see you as scared and nervous as you often are. Technically he knows that the other person mostly isn’t at fault, he’s aware of your social anxiety. He just can’t keep his temper though, especially if you look at him with those frightened and pleading eyes which make his heart burst. Your social anxiety and his easily trigger-happy temper make for a very bad combo in public so Chuuya spends a lot of his time with you inside his house where he knows that you feel far more comfortable.

🟠He feels great seeing you far more happy and comfortable, so much more loving now that you aren’t a nervous mess. A part of him still knows that this isn’t healthy and that he probably should help you. He does try at times, takes you outside and encourages you to interact with the people on the cash register or with the waiter/waitress ready to take your order. Such attempts often end up with him doing everything in the end though. He’s initially always a bit disappointed, clear by the small sigh he gives, but it’s all forgotten when you break out of your shell and shower him with affection at home.

Itadori Yuji

🩷Yuji is a supportive boyfriend so he’d definitely take it upon himself to help you with your social anxiety. Sure, sometimes it’s cute when you squirm nervously behind him but he knows that social interaction is important. He himself is socially very active and loves to take you outside for dates as well and whilst he doesn’t mind staying at times home with you, he eventually grows bored. Now, Yuji doesn’t expect you to be the ultimate social butterfly but he wants to reduce your anxiety of talking to strangers and your refusal to ask questions when you need help. If you’re too uncomfortable starting with total strangers, he just asks his friends and his sensei to help you a bit out of your shell. Nobara says that she thinks it’s a bit ridiculous but ends up being the one most supportive out of his teammates anyways.

🩷Mainly because she thinks that Megumi is too gloomy to be much of a help and Gojo…well, is Gojo. He visits the same shops and places with you so you grow accustomed to the staff and the people working there, encourages you to speak up for yourself. The pink-haired boy never leaves you alone though so you always have a feeling of reassurance by having him next to you. It’s really sweet, he praises you and compliments you when you do manage to speak up for yourself and showers you in little kisses but also isn’t disappointed if you can’t do something. He’s celebrating even the small steps you take but don’t worry, if it’s too much he’s there to take over for you.

I love how the government are like we need to hunt down the Agency and anyone connected to them.

And yet Katai is only put on house arrest.

I get why, he’s not a member. But he was and he also continues to work with them.

Not to mention he has a close friendship with Kunikida. The dude they all recently accused of child murder. And than later almost got murdered, did they really think his best friend wouldn’t retaliate?

Katai’s no slouch either. Kunikida himself said he’s equipped to take on military cyber warefare. And well, the ones hunting down the Agency are the militaries most elite squad.

I know they’re successful at keeping him separated and powerless (until they aren’t.) But it probably would’ve been a better idea to arrest him.

It’s not like they wouldn’t have grounds to do so, Katai by profession is an information broker. Everything he does is in a legal grey area and we’ve seen him hack into places before.

Man forget Dazai, what’s Katai’s criminal record look like? Katai also is still doing this so it’s not even old news like the others.

Depending on how much they know about his ability, they may also know he needs to feel comfortable and at home.

So why not him away from his home. Keeping him in solitary confinement without access to even a phone seems. I guess they were just that confident that Katai wouldn’t be able to do anything.

But my boy is also one of the few people to outsmart Fyodor so put some respect on his name.

As much as I love Ranpo breaking him out like the others, imagine a Katai prison break scene. He’s so full of worry but his need to protect his friends wins out.

Katai tricks someone into bringing a phone into the area and without even needing to touch it, activates his ability. He’s in the system. He’s in control.

Katai steps over a fallen guard and into the control room. If he was going to help, he needed to figure out what was going on. Why his friends were being targeted, and why now?

He smiles, somewhat sadly. He’s not a detective, not anymore but he’ll do what he can. After all, he learned from the best.

I just need one fic where Dazai throws away almost everything to rescue Chuuya, whether thats from corruption or from being killed. I need more of Dazai being extremely injured and ignoring his own pain for the sake of Chuuya. I need him to kill anyone who gets to close too killing chuuya. I need him to protect chuuya with his life. I need him to loose his shit in order to save Chuuya.

Just imagine

Dazai critically injured, limping over towards the person trying kill chuuya, (who was unconscious after either being poisoned or from using corruption) listening to them as they talk about how useless, weak and how much of a inhuman monster Chuuya is, before getting cut off by a raging Dazai who had just managed to swing his cane or some other weapon so hard on their head that it takes them out. Imagine him going up to Chuuya to make sure he's okay, as a secret firing squad comes to finish them off. Imagine Dazai holding chuuya as close as possible, becoming a human shield for Chuuya. Imagine that's what Chuuya wakes up to, a bloody Dazai pulling him closer than he ever had as an attempt to save his life. Maybe he survives, maybe he doesn’t. If Yosano is there, imagine Chuuya watching as they do the task of bringing dazai back to life, shocked and horrified by what he is seeing. Imagine Chuuya slapping Dazai in the face before hugging him.

Tormenting Chuuya with Situations #2

Summary: S3, EP 35 Cannibalism (Part Two) - Chuuya getting snatched by Poe's book. And you witness it.

Notes: *Second person point of view. *Gender neutral. *Another drabble with my merc reader that I'm working on. *More warmed up to the PM at this point. *Collab with Monocle

The war between the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia had only begun. Both sides wanting to save their leaders from death. Their current solution, to kill the opposing head.

The Port Mafia had numbers, that for sure. Within a matter of a few minutes, they had already surrounded the agency building. Another squad was dedicated to protecting Mori. However, even if the ADA didn't have numbers, they had strength and cunning thought. That was already proven with Tanizaki's illusion ability and their more recent attack at the front.

You were brought in to support the conflict, despite not wanting to. Really, you were just there for the show but a certain ginger just has to drag you along. But once again, you were part of the Port Mafia. You have to step in and help.

So there you were with Chuuya's men, just taking a drag of your cigarette. Shit went south at the agency building and Chuuya arrived back with his squad. The scrunched eyebrows and the focused eyes he had, you know that he's stressed.

"Outsmarted huh?" You ask as you relaxed in your standing position.

"Damn right," Chuuya replied with an annoyed tone. "You better do your part. I don't want you standing on the sidelines."

"Oh I'm doing something. Guarding this part of the building. Don't want a sneak attack ya know?" You take another drag of the cigarette.

Chuuya narrowed his eyes at you but he got a call. Some of the ADA members attacked the front. The high pitch of his voice was just more signs of his stress and saying he'll be right there.

"Go along~ You don't mind me keeping some of your men?" You say as you crossed your arms, keeping the cigarette in your mouth.

Just as Chuuya turned around to say something to his squad but a boy's voice called out.

"I can't let you do that, fancy hat boy."

At the bottom of the stairs stood Edogawa Ranpo. Alone but determined. You knew already not to underestimate anyone from the ADA, no matter how innocent they look. Everyone had eyes on him. Ranpo claimed that he could stop Chuuya. You just stood a few steps higher than Chuuya.

"Are you serious?" Chuuya asked. "I know you're integral to the Detective Agency, but I don't think you can put up a fight."

You muffled a scoff and glanced away. The ginger was already underestimating Ranpo, despite the ADA's strong pushback. But you weren't going to speak up.

Ranpo grinned and revealed his determined green eyes. "But you've lost to Dazai before, haven't you?"

You could hear Chuuya growl and a red aura lit up on him. A strong force hit the ground and caused a cloud that obscured him.

"Want to see what it's like to be crushed by gravity?" The Port Mafia Executive threatened.

You rolled your eyes at his dramatic reaction. Of course he's trying to put on a show. To hide his height and seem like a dangerous big dog. Though that didn't make Ranpo back down. He snickered and smirked at Chuuya.

"Nothing is impossible for the great detective," Ranpo said.

Chuuya shot up into the air with his ability. He came charging down fast like a meteor descending into the earth and making that odd shriek that gradually increased in pitch.

You raise your brow at his stunt. "Motherfucker…" you mutter to yourself. You were more surprised that even that didn't make Ranpo back down.

"Do you like mystery novels?" Ranpo asked aloud.

Ranpo brought out something and when Chuuya's fist made contact, a huge yellow swirl was circling around Chuuya. He was stuck in the air. You didn't even bother to listen Ranpo's words. You were more amused that Chuuya couldn't take his hand back to resist.

Within a matter of seconds, the two disappeared. All that was left behind was a book. Your cigarette dropped from your mouth. The Port Mafia members was paralyzed in shock. A raccoon came and took the book in it's mouth.

You picked up your phone and contacted the PM.

"Um… Hey…" it was hard to find the right words without sounding unbelievable. "Chuus… disappeared like a ghost."

The racoon started to run away. You had to act quick or else you would lose your lead on Chuuya. You turn back to the PM men and shut the phone.

"Stay back and guard this," you commanded. "I'm getting our exec back."

You followed the raccoon back to a building. It ran up to a tall man with brown, fluffy hair. He flinched back when he saw you.

"W-What d-do you want?" He asked as he took the book back and clutched it to his chest.

"Look, all I want is the small, fancy man that your book snatched up," you say as you put your hands up. "I ain't picking a fight. Just a temporary truce until I get my chihuahua back."

The man paused to think. He could see you weren't trying to hide your hand behind your back or reach for anything. He relaxed his posture.

"Fine…"

The two of you went to some other secluded location as you waited for the two guys. You figured out that this man was Edgar Allen Poe, or Poe for short. The raccoon was named Karl and spent a good time with him. Even if he was more focused trying to write his mystery novels. In a week, Ranpo was out. The war between the ADA and PM died down. Even some of the ADA came by but Chuuya hasn't came.

You were sitting on a chair in boredom. It has been a month since the incident. Dazai was sticking around the room for some reason.

"Hot damn, I'm gonna think he's not gonna get out at this point," you sigh as you leaned back lazily.

"Well I can always keep you company!" Dazai chirped and came close to you. "Plus, I rather have him stuck there."

You crossed your leg over. "Yeah well, not like I can leave him. The PM will have my ass if I come back empty handed."

"I could have your ass. Or you could quit the Port Mafia," he smirked at you.

"I'd be shot on sight," you scoffed.

"I know someone who could help~"

Just then a yellow light lit the room. A silhouette ascended from the book. The familiar hat outline and his coat fluttering were distinguishable. You both knew it was him.

Chuuya was panting lightly and turned to observe his surroundings.

"Well fun's over," Dazai deflated and put his hands in his coat pockets. "The world was better without him."

"Hah?!" Chuuya perked up with a scowl on his face.

"Let's go home, I'm fucking bored," You took Chuuya's arm and dragged him away.

"Oi! Let go! I'm not a damn child!!"

"You act like one!" Dazai added with a snarky smirk.

Chuuya growled at him and you covered his mouth and dragged him back to base.

Akutagawa ryuunosuke was supposed to take izumi kyouka as an apprentice but he got sick and had to be personally stopped by boss Mori to go out of bed for two weeks.

Nakahara chuuya returned earlier from his mission in Europe and was on a slow period at work, ozaki kouyou used this opportunity to have kyouka train under her former mentee instead and didn't hesitate to bribe Elise to get Mori-dono to agree .

Despite his objection, chuuya ended up with a new mentee.

Which was hard because being with her is a constant reminder of his time with the sheep and the last time that he was in charge of young children.

He want to protect her, he refuse to lose her, he train her in hand to hand combat and will take her shopping because of course his mentee will be stilish, he's still trying to get ride of dazai awful influence in akutagawa's style but kyouka-chan was never corrupted by a fish.

They will get outing together when she can be like a kid while he train her to survive in their world.

Kyouka and akutagawa are trained together and she get headpat and praise when she do well ( each job well done earn her a prize as well)

She devellopped a friendship with gin with whom she like to spar with and a rivalry with ryuunosuke.

She still trained with Verlaine and sometimes chuuya will join, she love to see chuuya and Verlaine fight and hope that one day she will be as strong of them.

Chuuya, kyouka and kouyou have a sunday tea time tradition that everyone respect even mori doesn't dare disturb it.

Another tradition that chuuya have with kyouka and that a day is dedicated to their hang out, he will take her to the arcade, to the amusement park or to watch movie so that she still could have a childhood even in the shadow of the mafia ( he even gave her a rabbit and she gave him a cat with kouyou's help)

Here kyouka go on mission with chuuya squad but chuuya doesn't see her as ready to kill yet so he sent her more on infiltration mission, she meet dazai and the ADA because she wanted to meet her big brother former partner and she wasn't impressed.

Dazai doesn't even know why he try to impress her but kunikuda adore her when she come into the office dazai do his paperwork because they're something about a brutally honest teenage girl listing all your flaw and why you don't deserve her big brother, port mafia or not she's always welcome into the office .

Mori find that funny so he actively encourage it and kouyou and Verlaine approve . She was named an honorary agency member ( and kunikida , atsushi and the others want her to be a full members even all men are equal work on her ( thanks to a scheme by dazai and ranpo), she's nearly as close with Atsushi as in canon ( but do have disagreement with him as she isn't willing to leave the mafia even if she did feel conflicted when she spilled her first blood but she can't betray chuuya and the others)

When it come with her and chuuya relationship, dazai would insert himself in chuuya and kyouka outing with atsushi in tow ( which annoy her but atsushi say no to stab him even if it's non lethal ). Both have a rivalry as to who is the better mentor ( chuuya is winning because of his trump card : akutagawa ryuunosuke so dazai try to spend more time with him and rectify his past screw up ( gin and kyouka find his reaction amusing but are ready to help him if he need it).

Dazai exploit chuuya soft spot for kyouka like in presenting kyouka with photo of a Bunny onesie and telling kyouka how cute it would be if they got matching outfits.

Kouyou approve, both she and dazai are in an alliance.

That my chuuya and kyouka are siblings agenda.

Bandages were visible from under your sleeves and pants, your palms were also in places in bandages, your forehead was also bandaged and bandages covered your right eye, while there was a large patch on your left cheek. When you first started studying with them in the same class, Clyde felt an interest in you. You were a weird guy. Most of your skin was hidden by bandages, and when Clyde tried to talk to you, it turned out that you didn't talk, but communicated with the help of small notes. It seemed strange, but Clyde didn't pay attention to it, preferring to communicate with you and get to know you better

Clyde found out pretty quickly that your bandages weren't for beauty. He realized this when you were walking after school. A car crashed next to you, but you didn't even blink or try to jump away, unlike Clyde. He saw a shard from the windshield hit your hand and started to panic, but you remained calm, looking at your wound with a smile

You refused to go to the hospital, so Clyde insisted that you go home and treat your wound, since you didn't want to get professional help. He looked with fright at how you pulled the fragment out of your hand and treated the wound, sometimes pressing on it, continuing to smile. You obviously liked the fact that you were injured and the fact that you didn't even try to jump away from the near accident site suggested to Clyde that maybe you had some kind of death craving

He communicated with you, although from the outside it seemed like something one-sided. You still preferred to be silent rather than talk, and the reason for this was unknown to him, but he respected your choice. He grumbled every time he treated your wounds, but inwardly softened when he saw your sincere smile. He didn't know what exactly made you so happy, that you got new wounds or that he was treating them

Token spent a lot of time with you, often preventing you from being in serious danger, but you stopped reacting to it as before. You took it with a slight smile on your lips, not even thinking to be indignant about it. He didn't know if you were grateful to him or not, but he wasn't going to stop saving you

Jimmy helped you get used to the new school and quite often he noticed that you seemed to be trying to be in danger. It bothered Jimmy and he tried to be there to at least talk you out of it if he couldn't stop you. He saw your wounds several times and was dissatisfied each time when he saw you picking at wounds with your fingernail that had not yet healed

He understood that you were fascinated by death, although it was difficult for him to understand the reason for this. He gave you bandages when he noticed that there were traces of your blood on yours, he tried to limit your attempts to get close to death and sometimes tried to talk to you. You still remained silent, but he could tell by your smile and eyes what emotions you were experiencing

Your relationship was something incomprehensible. You got along with each other despite the fact that you didn't even say anything. He knew that you were a good person, and although your desire to be as close to death as possible caused him anxiety, he continued to be close to you and in a sense take care of you, while you tried to take care of him

So like I’ve been thinking bout it some more, expanding the characters like mori got to be the king, oda is probably dazai personal bodyguard, ango or kunikida is the aide to the prince (god rest their souls🙏), fyodor being the crown prince of the neighbouring kingdom, atsushi is the newbie knight butting heads with senior knight akutagawa, black lizard as one of the knight squads ,DUCHESS KOYOU, Royal doctor yosano??, ada can be still a detective agency?or maybe a informant guild haha idk, marquess paul from another kingdom who is chuuya long lost brother

Like maybe when chuuya was young he was kidnap from his family and used by a cult of dark magicians to summon a demon but instead becomes a vessel, basically canon but ~fantasy~ and escape to another kingdom and was raised as a commoner and rose through the ranks through his hard work, until he finds out he actually is a noble but in game he bonds over with the og villainsess over how the nobles treat them with cruel rumors (him being not of noble blood and her being a villainess/foreigner) hahaha could even have the villainess falls for him but cannot marry him as her family wouldn’t approve of her marrying a commoner and chuuya thinking whether he’s worthy of her like angst and why am i making this sad let’s stop but yeah reader definitely would stick with chuuya like he’s such a reliable guy you would want on your side, one of the first people that she can trust and maybe tell the truth in this new world where she’s at risk of getting a bad ending

For dazai, usually in the isekai , the fl would use her knowledge on future events and people to her benefit, I’m thinking dazai would get even more intrigued seeing how he predicts how things happen but because of the reader’s knowledge she turns the tide and dazai is shook 🫨🫨🫨cause he’s always right except when it comes to reader 😏, first he gets close to figure out this mystery but slowly falls for reader and fast forward to him on his knees hugging reader, begging her to marry him while she tries to shove him of with a stick. Also we can have prince fyodor coming in as a love rival, gotta have dazai fighting for his life here hahah

ALSO!! I had another version of this verse where instead dazai is the demon king that the fl is suppose to defeat, with chuuya as the crown prince and main capture target

So like prince dazai is for when reader isekai as the villainess

And demon king dazai is when reader isekai as the heroine

Like think of the angst potential, falling for the one you have to kill for everyone’s happy ending(why do i do this to myself) OR the comedy where reader is trying to defeat the demon king but he’s so different from the og game, he’s in love with me?? That wasn’t in the lore!! Or the reverse where reader gets isekai and is like screw the other love interest give me the hot demon hahah with dazai being confused?? Flirting instead of fighting ✌️✌️✌️

After seeing the police Ranpo helped out in the past, helping him during the Decay of Angels arc.

Here's a list of people I wanted to see help the Agency:

-At the start, Kunikida getting broken out of jail by his former students.

Because you know he taught them to be critical of authority and public systems.

And ain't no way Mr Kunikida did these crimes. So he gets broken out and is both thankful... But very very much exasperated like What were you idiots thinking?!

-Ranpo getting saved after leaving the conference room by Kenji's extended family.

Just a squadron of grandma's in a pick up truck with shotguns and snacks.

I say grandma's because Kenji has previously said an old lady he met would've been considered young in his village.

Listen Kenji consideres the agency family and I can see em being like any family of Kenji's is our family too.

And well Ranpo's very thankful for the snacks.

-At the base after the chainsaw shit, several veterans sent to attack, instead aid them.

They are people who served in the same squad as Shunzen Tachihara and Yosano.

People who never saw her as a monster, and our thankful she helped them survive and go home.

And they'll do the same for her.

Fly high.

-Atsushi and Kyouka on the run and being aided by people that they've previously helped out.

They give them cover, let them stay with them and make sure that their safe on the run.

Because you protected us when we had no one. And now we're going to protect you.

Because you are so much more than your past, look at all the good you've done.

-In the Mersault break out, someone who was once aided by Fukuzawa during his bodyguard days, patches up Dazai.

Just sees him and pauses likee... "You're one of Fukuzawa's brats aren't you?"

Dazai's just like guilty 😊!

And they help him out because that man protected me and got my sentence reduced. I know he still checks up on my family for me.

I owe him one.

Just the Agency being helped by the people they help every day.

BSD Stage: Dark Era

I’ve been wanting to write a report aka feelings post about this stage play, but for days I wasn’t able to compose my words (and myself). I’m glad I found this review by our beloved @looking-for-stray-dogs and now please excuse me as I add my own thoughts (while trying my best to be coherent) on this. I encourage you to read her post first because more details about the play are written there!

Stage is indeed a different platform and more than any of the adaptations - light novel, anime - this medium is the one that felt the most alive. Well literally ofc, but you know, you just feel the fact that... they are there. Odasaku, Ango, teen Dazai. In 3D human forms, breathing, hurting, falling apart inside... dying.

I was not near enough to see their facial expressions very very clearly, except for the scenes when they were very near the edge of the stage. So what hit me the most was the emotion in their voices - which I happen to be very particular with since I am a voice actor fan.

I liked that Odasaku here is more emotional than the one in anime. 

His smiles. Oh my gosh. How much he enjoyed playing with the kids.

His voice. How it cracks more and more as he pats the head of each kid when he was saying good night to them. It was totally breaking when he was down to the last one, Sakura, which was akin to how our hearts have broken, too.

And yes, when Dazai was stopping him from going, Odasaku’s voice was cracking when he told Dazai that he wanted to be a novelist. I really felt how much he wanted it, but there was no way it could ever come true at that point. He was not just grieving for the kids; Odasaku was grieving for himself, too.

Ango. I don’t know what is it but Araki-san’s portrayal made me like Ango even more. He did indeed betray his friends, but he.was.very.much.hurting.too. I deeply appreciated that they included that epilogue scene in the novel when Ango was looking at the picture of the three of them together.

Mori. Yes! His voice was indeed very fitting and there were even times when he almost sounded like Miyamoto-san (anime VA). At some parts though, Mori and Elise’s appearance was somewhat distracting esp when I could’ve preferred to focus on the scene that was not about them. Like, Mori’s appearance is fine but Elise doing all the same grumpy reactions in the background was kinda off for me.

Music insert. Oh gosh. I couldn’t listen to Kaze ga Fuku Machi days after the play because the feels were too much for me to take in. This is my favorite BSD song, and the song’s lyrics are engraved in my heart and wow oh my gosh, I was not prepared that they suddenly played it during that scene. It was *heavy breathing* when Odasaku screamed after the kids exploded. And suddenly, I couldn’t see the stage anymore... for my eyes were filled with tears. I can’t compare Taniguchi-san (stage actor) and Suwabe-san’s (anime VA) screams during that scene, both are heart-crushing no matter what, but hearing it live on stage really pierced through my heart.

Reason Living. This is my second favorite BSD song, but as opposed to the previous one, I somewhat didn’t like where this song was inserted in the play. It was right after Odasaku died. The song was too lively and loud for that moment. Maybe nothing can replace Kaze ga Fuku Machi for me in this scene, but maybe it wouldn’t sound fit if they repeat the same song after using it in the screaming scene.

Dazai. *sighs* Where do I even start? I think I was one of the first people who shed tears during the play, and it was because of Dazai. It was just from their first scene, when Dazai was telling Odasaku about the stories of how he got his injuries. I know, that’s not a scene where anyone is supposed to cry, but gosh. Tawada Hideya’s acting. Contrary to Lea’s opinion that the Dazai in this stage is flirty, the message that came across to me is that this stage showed how much of a child Dazai Osamu was back then. The way he freely acts when he’s together with his friends in contrast to the demon prodigy of the Port Mafia. Sometimes we look at Mafia Dazai but forget that despite their experiences in the past, he was still young. And Odasaku understood that way before and way deeper than anyone else. 

I really liked that they included that precious line in the light novel when Odasaku was talking to Gide, “That guy was just a child who’s too smart. Just a crying child who’s been left alone in the darkness, a world of nothingness far emptier than the world can see.” (translation by nkhrchy.tumblr)

On the other hand, I have a very huge bias towards Miyano Mamoru as Dazai’s voice actor. While Hideyan did touch me in many scenes on his portrayal of teen Dazai, there were lines when I found them lacking. As Lea had mentioned, one of that was the scene when Dazai was begging the Mimic soldier to shoot him. He did yell, “PLEASE”, too strongly and loudly, I think, intending to drown Odasaku’s voice of stopping him. However I also thought that a soft, begging one would be more appropriate.

Another one is when Dazai told Mori that the reason he is going is that, “He is a friend.” I think the anime was more emotional in this one esp with the close-up of the peaceful look on Dazai’s face, and the silent pause.

Lastly, the Odasaku dying scene (ouch, how do we call that). Miyano Mamoru’s desperate but helpless trembling voice in that scene is imprinted in my heart and my ears - when I say I have it memorized, I mean it. Most probably because of this post (please listen to it with earphones): Odasaku’s Final Moments. So I’m sorry but I really couldn’t help but compare it so somehow, Hideyan’s acting in that scene didn’t give me as much feels as the anime did. However, seeing the light novel scene of Dazai lighting up Odasaku’s cigarette in that scene, then the anime scene of Dazai’s bandages getting pulled off, and lastly the scene fading out to Odasaku passing away on his friend’s lap with Dazai tilting his head up silently after - which then showed us his pained expression - was a good seal to the scene. I couldn’t ask for more. Oh.my.gosh.stop

And ofc, the final scene which Asagiri-sensei thoughtfully added. Dazai was back in Bar Lupin, in his ADA clothes, happily saying, “Odasaku, I found it! A job that saves people.” Odasaku appears, and Dazai continues... “Are you happy for me?” Odasaku doesn’t utter a single word, but smiles and pats Dazai on the head, and leaves.

This is giving me a thousand feels because I know, I can feel it, let me say it.

Dazai, Odasaku is very proud of and very happy for you.

This is just for me, but Odasaku saying nothing, but just pats his head while smiling? It’s giving me the feels that - at least one of Odasaku’s orphans made it.

Over-all, it was definitely a very beautiful adaptation of the light novel. Lea has already pointed out a lot of things in her post above so I also didn’t mention the other details in this post. Can’t really say that it’s perfect, but the stage play adaptation was more than satisfying and really made me love BSD and Asagiri-sensei MORE.
